BLACK FRIDAY

Oh the sales! For my family, it is a tradition to fight the crowds on Black Friday. I am sure lots of people think we are crazy. Thursday night, my sisters and I went to Target and Kohls. I came straight from Thanksgiving dinner so I was dressed a little fancy for shopping.

I look exhausted in this picture. It was only about 8… Look, I am trying to work on being more photogenic. These things take time! 🙂

These are my first true high-rise jeans and I don’t think I will every buy a different rise now. Yes, they go up to my belly button and no it doesn’t bother me. I felt weird for about a day wearing them but I am in love now. If you haven’t tried a high-rise, you need to. They just fit so amazing and make me feel more confident with my body. The ASTR deep v-neck shirt was an item I picked up on sale right before the Black Friday sale at Nordstrom (Of course it is no longer available, sorry! On Black Friday it was marked down an extra 20%) along with the adorable booties. OMG these booties. I am in love, they are the perfect color (they also come in several other amazing colors) and I am crazy for the laced-up style. The outfit is a little random but I think it came together nicely. The flannel under the dressy shirt was something fun I wanted to try. I like the idea of mixing fancy with causal, it makes things interesting. Fashion is about taking risks right?

DAY 5

DAY 5

Our second day in DC was a lot of fun. One of my good friends moved to DC a few years ago and we were able to meet up with her and her husband for lunch AND dinner 🙂 .We started the day with an awesome lunch at a local spot then toured the American History Museum and the Air and Space Museum (which was amazing!).

IMG_5294

The day felt like a hat day to me. No, I don’t care about the NY team but I do care about how adorable the hat is. #sorrynotsorry I was all about comfort. The picture above is of my good friend Monica and I 🙂 .

IMG_5296

(I am wearing a v-neck from Nordstrom Rack that I got for $10, Hudson jean shorts, NY hat from a city tourist store and UGG shoes 🙂 )

After the museums, I was beat (let’s be honest, I spent more time in the gift shops than in the museums). We had a fun dinner in Georgetown which was super cute and I wish we could have spent more time in the town. I was really hoping to do some shopping but the stores were closing early and I felt guilty dragging our friends around (maybe not that guilty 🙂 ). After dinner, we set out to Richmond. We found a random, cheap hotel on Groupon for the night because our friends in Richmond were getting back late that night from Europe and we didn’t want them to have to entertain us. The hotel was, um… a little sketchy…. but it worked out fine. Although, Ryan forgot a bag of alcohol and wine for our friends! So lame!

Saw this gem in a local liquor store and I couldn’t resist taking a picture!

Only 2 more days left on our trip to share!

EAST COAST DAY 2

DAY 2 of 6!

We all woke up well rested and excited for our second day in the city. It was about an hour train ride into the city from our friends house, where we were staying. Here’s a pic of Sandra and I at Madison’s adorable train station. Of course with our morning coffees 🙂 .

IMG_5224

First stop, Grand Central Station. WOW! The station is beautiful! We took lots of pictures but nothing seemed to turn out awesome.. must have been the cameras fault right? Anyway, here is the only decent full body shot of my outfit for the day. I am crazy for this suede skirt because it goes with so much! I like to wear it with a longer shirt over or a tucked flannel. The shirt is so comfy and can be dressed up (sort of) or dressed down with jeans so easy. It comes with those hanging straps on the inside (which drive me nuts) and I plan to snip those out ASAP! The booties were a cute choice with this outfit but not a cute choice for walking around New York City. My feet were okay but they would have been a lot better in some Nike’s. But we were in the city, I had to dress up right?

After touring the station for a little while, we tried out Dunkin’ Donuts. EVERYBODY says, “you must try Dunkin’ Donuts.” Look, this might offend some people but WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? I think the coffee was alright nothing special (#sorrynotsorry). After drinking our mediocre coffee, we took a taxi to the Rockefeller building.

IMG_5235

(Here’s Ryan calling for a taxi. OMG, he is we are such dorks)

While waiting for our “appointment” time to take the elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller, I did some shopping at TOPSHOP 🙂 .

Here is what I got:

IMG_5345

The yellow flannel has been on my radar for a while so I knew this was going to be a purchase. The lace-up flats have been all over Instagram lately and I have been drooling! I am so happy to now have a pair! I was between the these and the same ones but with tassels. Sandra and I decided the tassels were too intense. The NY (not from TOPSHOP) hat is just cute (sorry NY, I am only concerned about the cuteness factor. At least I am honest?).

The elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller was 90 seconds of torture. I get motion sickness and they had a crazy strobe light show on the ceiling while we rode up (I was so happy when it stopped!). The views were amazing but I was happy to be back on the ground floor 🙂 .

SDC12038

We ate a late breakfast so we skipped lunch, terrible decision (some of us may have been hangry (hungry+angry=hangry), or maybe that was just me?). We went and wandered through the MET. AMAZING is all I can say. You could spend an entire day just looking at things in the MET. We left after a couple hours in need of dinner.

SDC12046

(I should be embarrassed by this but for some reason I am not)

SDC12051

Reichenbach Hall is where we ended up for dinner. It was a great atmoshphere with delicious chicken wings 🙂 . The beer was pretty good too! After dinner, we checked out the Barcade (video game bar). The dudes had a great time, Sandra and I were exhausted.

Lastly, on our way back to the train station, I saw a Psychic sign. YES! This is not really for everyone but I think it is fun to see what they will say. The woman read my palm for a few seconds (while her dog barked and her kids yelled in the other room) then had some serious predictions. She said: If I am not careful, I will be pregnant with a boy in 7 months (um, no thanks! This mama is done 🙂 ), I will be signing important papers in the next few months, we will be buying a different house in 2 years and I may be changing jobs. She also answered a few random questions of mine. It was a lot of fun, I may or may not have been intoxicated while my reading but I had a blast.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our day 2 in NYC, there are 4 more days to come!

(The little feet in the picture are my youngest, Madison’s. It is not easy to get a picture without these kids sneaking in 🙂 )

Today’s look. These green Rag and Bone jeans have become one of my FAVORITES. (I picked them up at the Anniversary Sale at a much better price!) At first, I was thinking, “what does someone wear with green pants?” Once I got home, I was like, “what can’t you wear with green pants?” The possibilities are endless 🙂 . It’s all about trying new options and putting pieces together to see how they will look. You may surprise yourself! Next, this Halogen shirt (is $25 and comes in several different colors, I also got this piece at the Anniversary Sale for only $15) is an awesome basic. I am CRAZY for a white t-shirt, they are so easy to put on with jeans, a skirt/shorts or GREEN PANTS 😉 . The leopard BP flats are always a great choice. They are not the most supportive shoes and mine have gotten a little stinky (TMI?) but they are super fun and reasonably priced. Last, the necklace is a hand-me-down piece from my wonderful sister-in-law (thanks, Jamie!). It is from Anthropologie but not sure how long ago.

OPTION ONE

SONY DSC
Extreme closeup!

Here is the first option I chose to wear with this dress. I LOVE the idea of mixing casual with fancy, whether it’s a t-shirt with a fancy-ish skirt or in this case, a dress with a flannel and converse. I am crazy for Converse, I think this is my 3rd or 4th pair. Just a fun fact, they wash really well! I wore my white pair camping (I know terrible idea) and they washed back to crisp white. My girls have the pink velcro Converse (going on their 3rd pair) and they wash well too 🙂 . I went with this could-be-casual-or-dressed-up necklace, courtesy of my sister-in-law; Thank you Jamie! The flannel is actually denim and it is SO comfy and great to wear with light jeans, or unbuttoned as a third piece. The sleeves rolled gives the shirt a cuter look. I don’t know how I came up with this outfit, it just came to me as I was looking into my closet trying to figure out what to do. It is unexpected and I think that is what I like most about it. This outfit could be worn during the day, running around with the kids and then you could trade out the Converse for heels and take off the denim shirt for a night out. The necklace would still be great for going out. Here are lots of pics from our “photo shoot,” I hope you enjoy! Thanks again Bri for helping!!

Mom Days

IMG_3662

I feel like I buy clothes often and I wear most of them to work but as soon as I get home I revert back to my jean shorts and t-shirt. WHY!!?? I hate going into my closet and feeling like I have nothing to wear or the things I do have I don’t want to mess up while hanging with the kids. Let’s be honest, If something is dry clean only that item is not going anywhere near our kids! I found somewhat of a solution. I can wear my usual v-neck with jean shorts but instead of throwing on my grey Toms, I wear a pair of flats and a necklace. I am not much of a heel or wedge wearer but more power to you if you are. You can still wear Toms or Converse, just be sure to add a third/finishing piece (vest, opened button down, necklace, jacket). Just taking an extra step on your easy outfit will make you feel better while out. Peep out your closet and try something different 🙂 . Remember, it doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Comfort is key when chasing kids 🙂 .

CONFESSION TIME

I can’t believe I have not posted about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale!! OMG there are a some MUST haves! First, I must confess why I have been so distracted lately. I was posting a few times a week until recently. 50 Shades of Grey. I know you must be rolling your eyes but at least I am honest… OMG I am not a reader normally but these books have taken over my life in the past few weeks. My husband thinks it’s an inner freak in me but really it is more about the story in these books. I literally read every chance I get, hence the lack of posts lately. I find myself wanting to use quotes from the book, I almost emailed my Director the other day saying “we aim to please.” OKAY, THERE I feel better 🙂 .  Now, back to the Nordstrom sale.

Oh, these boots! Frye boots happen to be my favorite brand of boots. They are a little on the pricey side BUT they are well made and will last a lifetime (maybe?). I love the color of these, you can wear them with jeans (light or dark), a skirt or a dress. The options are endless! They can be worn with pretty much any color shirt or dress. At first I thought they were too western for me but I decided to get over it because they are adorable.

These high-rise Rag & Bone jeans. Who buys green pants? This girl does. I love that they are a dark green so it’s not like wearing neon colored pants. They are different which makes any outfit original. They are a fun spin on typical colored denim jeans. Do not let these intimidate you, wear them with any top you would normally pair with jeans. I love that they are skinny and would be super cute with boots!  _10671530

I am not normally into the 2fer type shirts but this one tugged at my heart. Once tried on, I was in love. This Treasure & Bond sweater comes in more colors but I think this is the best choice. This could be worn with denim jeans or the green ones above would be super cute. Although, would the green and red be too festive around Christmas time? I think it would be okay.

_10770237

I apologize for this picture, it is kind of awkward!

OMG this Top Shop biker vest. The Top Shop sizes are weird, I see lots of stuff I want but nothing seems to fit me right, does this happen to other people too? Back to the vest.  I am not really a “rough” dresser but this vest is adorable. If I get this vest I imagine myself wearing it with the sweater above, dark denim skinny jeans and some white converse, doesn’t that sound adorable? Well, if not then maybe a white shirt underneath, skinny jeans and flats (cheetah of course 🙂 ). This is a little out there but I love it and it would be a fun piece to have. Yes, I did try it on and this Top Shop item actually fits me!

This years sale is a good one, definitely worth peeping out 🙂 .

A LITTLE LACE

IMG_4126

WOW, it has been almost a week since my last post, sorry. I have been in a funk lately and have not felt up to posting. The funk is over and it’s time to blog! This outfit. The skirt is Ro & De and it is so fun! The stripes were a little intimidating at first but I went for it and I am so happy I did. I like to try different pieces of clothing together and see what ends up looking like a cool outfit (putting this skirt and top together was a random idea). The lace top (J.O.A.) is so different from the skirt and I think that is what I like most about it. The leopard flats (BP) are always fun. They don’t necessarily match but I think that’s okay. I am not into matchy-matchy pieces (unless it is a matching set, then I like that 🙂 ). The necklace is a new Baublebar purchase ($10!!).

Forget about it

OMG this lightweight jacket is adorable and so fun for the summer. It is the perfect 3rd piece for almost any outfit. It may look kind of fancy but really you could wear it with jeans (light or dark, with or without holes), shorts or a skirt like I did. AND it has pockets.. forget about it…

IMG_3680 IMG_3674 IMG_3685I think I need to invest in a selfie stick but OMG kind of embarrassing right? Although, no more embarrassing than taking pictures of yourself 🙂 . Sorry, I will post later when I have a better picture.

I am in search of a knowledgable blogger friend who has been doing this for a while. I have some questions and I am looking for honest feedback. Let me know if you are interested 🙂 .

Beercycle

Thursday, was my sister-in-laws (and bro-in-laws but he was not there) birthday and we celebrated doing the Sac Brew Bike in Sacramento. It was SO FUN!! OMG! Friday, was rough..I may or may not have left a little early from work. Anyway, to the outfit. I felt like I wanted to look like a real hipster/cute. I wanted to venture out and try something new, you know when you see girls dressed adorable like they could be on TV, well that was the look I was going for, kind of. I think the outfit turned out pretty cute, I don’t know about TV worthy but definitely Midtown worthy.

OMG, this Madewell vest, forget about it so cute! I love that the denim is lighter than usual so you can wear it with a darker denim pant/short or a cute summer dress.

This is my I-want-to-be-model-but-I-have-no-idea-how-to-model-look. Does that make sense? I tucked the shirt just in the front because the shirt is about the same length as the shorts and I didn’t want to look like I had nothing on under the shirt.. awkward! Ryan said the shirt looked stupid tucked in but I liked it.. what does he know anyway? Since we were biking I felt Converse were appropriate and unexpected. I love mixing the unexpected!

This picture is terrible but it is the only one I got of us 🙂 .

The gang.
