JACKET-OBSESSED

IMG_6388

If you follow me on Instagram you have probably thought to yourself, “is she really wearing that adorable leather jacket again?” (You may have thought that without the adorable mixed in πŸ™‚ ) I had planned on getting the leather Treasure and Bond jacket after Christmas with gift cards because it was a little pricey. Two weeks ago, the jacket was showing unavailable online. I was in a panic! I called the online customer service immediately, yes I was at work and whispering while making my really important phone call. They were able to add it to my shopping bag so I had no choice but to order it. (It was clearly a life or death making decision) Luckily, I have a Nordstrom card in my name so my husband can’t see my purchases. Yes, I really just admitted to that and no I’m not sorry.

IMG_6408

Okay, enough about the story behind the jacket. A few years ago I would have never imagined myself in a black leather moto jacket. What does a person wear with it? Would I look like I belonged in a biker gang? A leather jacket felt intimidating at the time but my style has really evolved and I love taking risks.

I started by only wearing the jacket on “fancy” nights out then with jeans and a t-shirt. This morning I was getting ready to run errands and I was deciding between my new awesome jacket or a comfy sweatshirt. Yes, a sweatshirt would have been cozy but I chose the new jacket. No, I wasn’t as comfy but I felt better and more put together. Although, this jacket is REALLY soft and easy to wear. I love wearing it with jeans, skirts or black pants πŸ™‚ . Well, now you know about my new obsession.

BLACK FRIDAY

Oh the sales! For my family, it is a tradition to fight the crowds on Black Friday. I am sure lots of people think we are crazy. Thursday night, my sisters and I went to Target and Kohls. I came straight from Thanksgiving dinner so I was dressed a little fancy for shopping.

I look exhausted in this picture. It was only about 8… Look, I am trying to work on being more photogenic. These things take time! πŸ™‚

These are my first true high-rise jeans and I don’t think I will every buy a different rise now. Yes, they go up to my belly button and no it doesn’t bother me. I felt weird for about a day wearing them but I am in love now. If you haven’t tried a high-rise, you need to. They just fit so amazing and make me feel more confident with my body. The ASTR deep v-neck shirt was an item I picked up on sale right before the Black Friday sale at Nordstrom (Of course it is no longer available, sorry! On Black Friday it was marked down an extra 20%) along with the adorable booties. OMG these booties. I am in love, they are the perfect color (they also come in several other amazing colors) and I am crazy for the laced-up style. The outfit is a little random but I think it came together nicely. The flannel under the dressy shirt was something fun I wanted to try. I like the idea of mixing fancy with causal, it makes things interesting. Fashion is about taking risks right?

P.S. I like to add items to my Wishlist on Nordstrom.com and then wait till they go on sale to purchase πŸ™‚ You would be surprised by how many things go on sale at Nordstrom.

OBSESSED

I never knew I could love half a jacket so much. I have become slightly obsessed with vests. My first vest was menswear inspired (of course), I wore it maybe a couple of times and it has been sitting in my closet for about 7 years. The denim vest in the picture below was my second vest and it is what started my obsession. The light denim is nice because you can wear it with darker denim, it is also a more casual look but still can be worn with dresses or skirts. Vests are great because you can pair them with shorts, pants, jeans, skirts and dresses. So many options!

IMG_3628

The best thing about vests are they add some warmth but not so much that you get hot. I am an over-heater myself so vests have been life changing πŸ™‚ .

Love this leather TOPSHOP vest adds a “toughness” factor while still looking adorable.

This TOPSHOP vest has turned into one of my favorites. I like to wear it with a t-shirt and jeans or work pants, I love how it can be dressed up or worn more casual.Β

Love the color of this faux fur, it goes amazing with a lighter shirt or sweater.

See how amazing vests are!? Thanks for reading πŸ™‚ .

Virginia

Richmond, Virginia was the last leg of our trip. Our wonderful friends, Mike and Mona, hosted us at their super cool loft (thanks again, friends πŸ™‚ ). Our first thought once in Virginia was, “OMG it’s humid!” Β It went from no rain to downpour in the matter of minutes. Once the rain stopped, we were still wet from the humidity. Minus the humidity, we had a great time with awesome friends!

We arrived around lunch time and once settled in, we set out for lunch and shopping (best day ever). Check out the AMAZING faux fur vests I picked up πŸ™‚ Β because everyone needs 2 right. Β They serve different purposes… The pleather pants are just fun. Although, I wore them the other night and they were not quite as comfortable as I thought they would be (I could barely keep them up over my butt and it was a little hard to sit, TMI?) but they are still super cute and fun. The things girls do to look cute…

Notice the crazy cool necklace? I got the vest and pleather pants from a place called Traveling Chic BoutiqueΒ (check out the page, it’s a real cool place). The girls working were hilarious, they kept talking to a mannequin that they were trying to dress and saying all kinds of funny mean comments about the body, I peaked my head from the dressing room and said, ” you’re not talking about me right?” We all starting laughing, maybe you had to be there? The vest and necklace on the right are from Fab’rik. Β Ryan thinks the necklace is awful, but I LOVE it! I say, the uglier the better πŸ™‚ . It’s actually really cool. The people working at Fab’rik said while in Richmond, we needed to eat as much as possible because the food is amazing. So we did.

IMG_5322

IMG_5323

We had to try some southern BBQ. We ate at Buzz and Ned’s. I loved my wings, Ryan thought his ribs could have been better.

IMG_5311

Um, in Richmond, they have a 24 hour fresh cookie delivery service, AMAZING!

IMG_5331

We ended our trip with a super fun and cute boat ride. We were the only 4 people on the boat so the driver spent a little extra time letting us look for turtles, if you know me, you know how I feel about turtles πŸ™‚ .

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed reading about our trip,

DAY 5

DAY 5

Our second day in DC was a lot of fun. One of my good friends moved to DC a few years ago and we were able to meet up with her and her husband for lunch AND dinner πŸ™‚ .We started the day with an awesome lunch at a local spot then toured the American History Museum and the Air and Space Museum (which was amazing!).

IMG_5294

The day felt like a hat day to me. No, I don’t care about the NY team but I do care about how adorable the hat is. #sorrynotsorry I was all about comfort. The picture above is of my good friend Monica and I πŸ™‚ .

IMG_5296

(I am wearing a v-neck from Nordstrom Rack that I got for $10, Hudson jean shorts, NY hat from a city tourist store and UGG shoes πŸ™‚ )

After the museums, I was beat (let’s be honest, I spent more time in the gift shops than in the museums). We had a fun dinner in Georgetown which was super cute and I wish we could have spent more time in the town. I was really hoping to do some shopping but the stores were closing early and I felt guilty dragging our friends around (maybe not that guilty πŸ™‚ ). After dinner, we set out to Richmond. We found a random, cheap hotel on Groupon for the night because our friends in Richmond were getting back late that night from Europe and we didn’t want them to have to entertain us. The hotel was, um… a little sketchy…. but it worked out fine. Although, Ryan forgot a bag of alcohol and wine for our friends! So lame!

Saw this gem in a local liquor store and I couldn’t resist taking a picture!

Only 2 more days left on our trip to share!

DC

DAY 4

Sunday morning we slept in, said goodbye to our friends and left for DC. We had a rental car specifically for this drive. We had hoped to stop in Philly but due to the Pope’s visit we were not able to (not bitter or anything). Once in DC, we checked in and headed to the downtown area to take the night bus tour. Ryan insisted that I take a pic in front of the FBI building (HI!).

(Dinner before the night tour)

In NYC, the adrenaline of the city was amazing and I wanted to look my best everyday. As soon as we got to DC, it just wasn’t the same vibe (for me at least, sorry DC) and I seemed to hit my “wall” of exhaustion. The DC night tour was awesome but lasted a hour longer than supposed to so we didn’t get back to the hotel until about midnight. We then hit the bar for some drinks πŸ™‚

DAY 3 – BROOKLYN YOU HAVE MY HEART

Day 3

From Madison, NJ we drove to Brooklyn. For some reason, I expected Brooklyn to be grungy and a little scary but it was quite the opposite (at least the area we were in). OMG, Brooklyn, it was love at first bite of a duck wing. We started at the Smorgasbord. The food options were AMAZING! I tried duck, coconut (yes, I have tried coconut before but never in such a fun way) and Lumpia (I know random, I just couldn’t decide and it sounded delicious).

IMG_5244 IMG_5240 IMG_5241 IMG_5243IMG_5245
(At first I felt a little sad about the duck but I just tried not to think about singing rubber ducky to my kids)

IMG_5247

Can you see the little mouse door? How fun is that!?

The thing I loved about Brooklyn so much was the feeling I had while there. Everyone was dressed like they had their own fashion blog and the shopping was awesome! A lot of flea shopping with handmade jewelry and several boutiques with unique clothing. I felt safe and it was just a cool place. My purchase while in Brooklyn was a pair of cloth Dr. Martens. It’s funny because when Β I was in Junior High/ High School, my sisters and I owned pairs of Doc’s but got rid of all of them and now they are back!? Fashion is funny. They are adorable but I have not worn them yet, I think I am waiting for the weather to cool down.

IMG_5348

The Dr. Martins are a different look, I am trying to not let them intimidate me and just go for it πŸ™‚

That night, we had tickets to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway. We changed our clothes in the car, yes in the car and we set out for sushi then the show. Wow, the show was AMAZING and hilarious! Definitely a must see, unless you are offended easily, then maybe not…

For the evening, I chose to wear this Wayf faux suede blue dress with Vince Camuto heels and a Stella and Dot necklace. The dress is fun and different than anything else I own (minus the brown faux suede skirt I own but that’s different cause it’s a not the same color and not a skirt, right?). After the show, we went to a rooftop bar for drinks. The night was so fun πŸ™‚ .

EAST COAST DAY 2

DAY 2 of 6!

We all woke up well rested and excited for our second day in the city. It was about an hour train ride into the city from our friends house, where we were staying. Here’s a pic of Sandra and I at Madison’s adorable train station. Of course with our morning coffees πŸ™‚ .

IMG_5224

First stop, Grand Central Station. WOW! The station is beautiful! We took lots of pictures but nothing seemed to turn out awesome.. must have been the cameras fault right? Anyway, here is the only decent full body shot of my outfit for the day. I am crazy for this suede skirt because it goes with so much! I like to wear it with a longer shirt over or a tucked flannel. The shirt is so comfy and can be dressed up (sort of) or dressed down with jeans so easy. It comes with those hanging straps on the inside (which drive me nuts) and I plan to snip those out ASAP! The booties were a cute choice with this outfit but not a cute choice for walking around New York City. My feet were okay but they would have been a lot better in some Nike’s. But we were in the city, I had to dress up right?

0925151211

After touring the station for a little while, we tried out Dunkin’ Donuts. EVERYBODY says, “you must try Dunkin’ Donuts.” Look, this might offend some people but WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? I think the coffee was alright nothing special (#sorrynotsorry). After drinking our mediocre coffee, we took a taxi to the Rockefeller building.

IMG_5235

(Here’s Ryan calling for a taxi. OMG, he isΒ we are such dorks)

While waiting for our “appointment” time to take the elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller, I did some shopping at TOPSHOP πŸ™‚ .

Here is what I got:

IMG_5345

The yellow flannel has been on my radar for a while so I knew this was going to be a purchase. The lace-up flats have been all over Instagram lately and I have been drooling! I am so happy to now have a pair! I was between the these and the same ones but with tassels. Sandra and I decided the tassels were too intense. The NY (not from TOPSHOP) hat is just cute (sorry NY, I am only concerned about the cuteness factor. At least I am honest?).

The elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller was 90 seconds of torture. I get motion sickness and they had a crazy strobe light show on the ceiling while we rode up (I was so happy when it stopped!). The views were amazing but I was happy to be back on the ground floor πŸ™‚ .

SDC12038

We ate a late breakfast so we skipped lunch, terrible decision (some of us may have been hangry (hungry+angry=hangry), or maybe that was just me?). We went and wandered through the MET. AMAZING is all I can say. You could spend an entire day just looking at things in the MET. We left after a couple hours in need of dinner.

SDC12046

(I should be embarrassed by this but for some reason I am not)

SDC12051

Reichenbach Hall is where we ended up for dinner. It was a great atmoshphere with delicious chicken wings πŸ™‚ . The beer was pretty good too! After dinner, we checked out the Barcade (video game bar). The dudes had a great time, Sandra and I were exhausted.

Lastly, on our way back to the train station, I saw a Psychic sign. YES! This is not really for everyone but I think it is fun to see what they will say. The woman read my palm for a few seconds (while her dog barked and her kids yelled in the other room) then had some serious predictions. She said: If I am not careful, I will be pregnant with a boy in 7 months (um, no thanks! This mama is done πŸ™‚ ), I will be signing important papers in the next few months, we will be buying a different house in 2 years and I may be changing jobs. She also answered a few random questions of mine. It was a lot of fun, I may or may not have been intoxicated while my reading but I had a blast.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our day 2 in NYC, there are 4 more days to come!

EAST COAST DAY 1

We started planning for our trip to the East Coast back in January after reconnecting Β with some friends in Hawaii for a wedding. Our friends offered to host us in New Jersey and the other’s in Richmond, Virginia. I have a friend living in DC, so we mapped out our trip and began working on our itinerary. The first 3 days were spent in New Jersey (although, we went into NYC everyday πŸ™‚ ), then DC for 2 days and Virginia for the last 2 days.

Packing, I don’t like to over pack but I also wanted to bring lots of options, this is NYC. Here’s most of what I packed, minus some toiletrees. I got these packing bags on Amazon that really helped condense our stuff to fit into carry-ons.

DAY 1

0923151734b

(yes, we only took carry-ons, you may consider me a packing ninja)

We took a red-eye flight then hit the ground running straight into the city (huge mistake, we were beyond exhausted after not getting much sleep on the plane). I wore yoga pants, a t-shirt and a flannel on the flight so I needed to change and wash my face as soon as we landed in Newark, NJ (why do flights make you so greasy? Or maybe that’s just me?). Β I did a quick change in the airport bathroom, washed my face and did my makeup. At first I was embarrassed, then I was like “who cares?” One of the first things I noticed on the East Coast, no toilet seat covers! None in NYC, NJ, DC or VA, weird right??! Don’t worry Mom, I just covered the seat in toilet paper.

IMG_5213

(me changing in the bathroom stall, NBD)

After the train to NYC, we stored our luggage at Schwartz Luggage. Then we started the Big Bus Tour. The bus tour was probably my favorite thing we experienced in the city (day one), the tour guides were amazing (besides one boring one) and we could hop on and off at any stop uptown and downtown Manhattan. One of the tour guides kept calling Ryan the paparazzi and it was hilarious, or maybe we were just delirious? Our first stop, 9/11 Memorial and Museum. WOW, is all I can say, they did an amazing job on this memorial!

12039537_10153031002321916_6883328983474427773_n

Next stop, Battery park. We decided not to take the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty or Ellis island due to time (we also get sea sick). Β Luckily, this park had some amazing views. We were really surprised by all the parks in the city and how nice people were. For some reason, I was expecting people to be rude but it was quite the opposite. I also expected to be nervous about all the people but we felt very safe, that may have been due to the all the extra security around with the Pope visiting. We kind of had a Pope sighting, we saw cars driving by and lots of people cheering but I could not see the “Pope mobile” directly. That counts right? After the park and lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, we were beyond exhausted. We opted to sit on the bus without “hopping” off for the rest of the tour. Once our tour ended, a couple hours later, we were ready to head to our friends house in NJ. I picked up a cannoli for the train ride back. That is an East Coast MUST right? It was AMAZING and gave me the energy/happy pickup I needed. The Penn Station was INSANE, our train number wasn’t announced but 3 minutes before it left the station and we had to push through people with our luggage. HOLY S, It was crazy! Luckily, we made it. We had really great conversations with a college-aged girl and a older man (no they weren’t together). Once in Madison, NJ our friends picked us up. In NJ, several restaurants do not serve alcohol but they have BYOB policies. It was bizarre. We brought our own beer and wine, the server opened our wine and gave us a bucket with ice for our beer, no hassle and no charge! After dinner, we went home and passed out. Thank you Doran and Sandra for hosting us!!

My outfit choice for day one felt real “New York-ish.” I didn’t plan on wearing my hat but it would have costs more to store it at the luggage place. I feel like a hat seems like a good idea until its been on for several hours and your ears are sore and you have major hat hair… It was still pretty cute. My friend/stylist at Nordstrom helped me come up with this outfit πŸ™‚ .

YIKES

YIKES! It has been too long since my last post. SORRY! I have been a little discouraged lately but I am getting back in the “blog” game. BRING IT!

Um, we leave for NYC in one week from tomorrow. Can you believe it? I am so excited and nervous! There is so much to see and do it’s overwhelming. We will be in New Jersey, DC and Virginia at different times during our trip but New York City is all I can think about. The fashion, the sites, the coffee shops, the restaurants.. OMG My husband wants to see historical things the entire trip but I really want to embrace the city and of course go shopping! Looks like there will need to be some compromising, on his end of course πŸ˜‰ .

I feel like I have been planning and preparing for this trip since we booked it MONTHS ago. When I say planning, I really mean our itinerary my outfits. This is NYC, my outfits need to be perfect and on point EVERYDAY! We will be doing so much walking that shoes are important to think about. Comfy Nikes are the obvious choice when walking around Disneyland but this is NYC, I am not wearing running shoes. These UGG sneakers were a great find. They will be perfect and are weather resistant. They will go with several of my outfits I have already thought out in my head. The UGGs are a good compromise from running shoes.

_10922466

Β Then outfits, It is going to be in the mid-seventies while we are there. Do I wear jeans with a t-shirt or shorts because I will probably be sweating from all the walking? I know, #firstworldproblems.

I have my first outfit planned for our travel day and first day in the city. I will be posting that soon πŸ™‚ .

Thanks for reading,
