My Latest Business Adventure

Hello! So, you all know how much I LOVE clothes and accessories really are the finishing touch to ANY look – casual or fancy. I hear lots of women say, “but I wouldn’t know what to wear that with.” Here’s the thing, the only way to get comfortable with wearing accessories is by just going for it and trying new things out. Amazing outfits don’t always come out of the first look you put on, it takes throwing on pieces in your closet that might go together and finding great looks out of what you weren’t sure of. Well, sometimes the amazing outfits will come from the first look you put together but not always 😉 I recently started as a Stylist for Stella & Dot. Have you heard of them? If you haven’t, you need to stop what you’re doing and follow this link now! http://www.stelladot.com/caitlyndavis I want to share some of my favorite pieces and different ways I have styled them.

First, the Rebel Pendant (comes in silver, gold and rose gold) is an easy piece to throw on with anything. Often, I will put on the Rebel over jean shorts and a white T-shirt. It just adds a cute element to what was a plain outfit. So easy for the moms out there looking for something quick.

Next, the Chiara. OMG, at first I was not crazy about this necklace, but after layering it over a denim shirt – forget about it. I am obsessed with this piece. It is so great for girls night, date night, work or just wearing it because it’s super cute.

The Freya Fringe, is probably my ultimate favorite piece. It can be worn several different ways but my favorite are short and long. This piece is so versatile. I took this to New York and basically wore it the entire time even though I brought several pieces with me. This may seem a little intimidating to some but TRUST me, this will really add some sparkle to your wardrobe and you won’t believe all the compliments you will receive.

There’s so many more amazing pieces from Stella & Dot! Check out their website and let me know what you think 😉 http://www.stelladot.com/caitlyndavis

Spring

Spring is here and I have collected some of my favorite trends to share. I am still crazy for torn denim and shorts are no exception. The other day, Ryan (my husband) was like, “what is wrong with your shorts? They have a huge hole, why are you wearing them. Please tell me you didn’t buy them like that!?” Sorry, not sorry because I definitely bought them with the holes. I found these Topshop denim shorts on clearance at Nordstrom rack for $18! It doesn’t get much better than that for Topshop. They came with some small holes and have become holier (is that a word?) over time. They are a high rise and could be mistaken for “mom butt” but I actually LOVE them and usually wear a casual t-shirt, tucked in the front of course.

The block heel. OMG I am crazy for a block heel. As a girl who rarely wears heels and struggles to walk in them when I do, the chunky heel makes wearing heels a million times easier. Here’s a roundup of the ones I love:

I LOVE me some white denim! They are just so perfect for spring and summer. The torn look is fun and makes them a little more casual. Any age can wear a little tare but a shredded look is probably not the best choice for the seniors…. 🙂

That is all for today. I will have much more to share soon. I hope you enjoyed reading!

YIKES

YIKES! It has been too long since my last post. SORRY! I have been a little discouraged lately but I am getting back in the “blog” game. BRING IT!

Um, we leave for NYC in one week from tomorrow. Can you believe it? I am so excited and nervous! There is so much to see and do it’s overwhelming. We will be in New Jersey, DC and Virginia at different times during our trip but New York City is all I can think about. The fashion, the sites, the coffee shops, the restaurants.. OMG My husband wants to see historical things the entire trip but I really want to embrace the city and of course go shopping! Looks like there will need to be some compromising, on his end of course 😉 .

I feel like I have been planning and preparing for this trip since we booked it MONTHS ago. When I say planning, I really mean our itinerary my outfits. This is NYC, my outfits need to be perfect and on point EVERYDAY! We will be doing so much walking that shoes are important to think about. Comfy Nikes are the obvious choice when walking around Disneyland but this is NYC, I am not wearing running shoes. These UGG sneakers were a great find. They will be perfect and are weather resistant. They will go with several of my outfits I have already thought out in my head. The UGGs are a good compromise from running shoes.

Then outfits, It is going to be in the mid-seventies while we are there. Do I wear jeans with a t-shirt or shorts because I will probably be sweating from all the walking? I know, #firstworldproblems.

I have my first outfit planned for our travel day and first day in the city. I will be posting that soon 🙂 .

(The little feet in the picture are my youngest, Madison’s. It is not easy to get a picture without these kids sneaking in 🙂 )

Today’s look. These green Rag and Bone jeans have become one of my FAVORITES. (I picked them up at the Anniversary Sale at a much better price!) At first, I was thinking, “what does someone wear with green pants?” Once I got home, I was like, “what can’t you wear with green pants?” The possibilities are endless 🙂 . It’s all about trying new options and putting pieces together to see how they will look. You may surprise yourself! Next, this Halogen shirt (is $25 and comes in several different colors, I also got this piece at the Anniversary Sale for only $15) is an awesome basic. I am CRAZY for a white t-shirt, they are so easy to put on with jeans, a skirt/shorts or GREEN PANTS 😉 . The leopard BP flats are always a great choice. They are not the most supportive shoes and mine have gotten a little stinky (TMI?) but they are super fun and reasonably priced. Last, the necklace is a hand-me-down piece from my wonderful sister-in-law (thanks, Jamie!). It is from Anthropologie but not sure how long ago.

A GIRL CAN DREAM

Lately, I have been drooling over some must-have items (in my opinion). Why is everyone wearing these TOPSHOP lace-up flats? Now, I want them!! By everyone, I mean people sponsored on Instagram… but still.. I can’t get them out of my head. They are called Kingdom Ghillie Pointed Shoes and they are adorable. They would be great with a dress, shorts/skirt or even jeans. They are different and I think that is what I am most attracted to, they also fill my wannabe ballerina I guess. I need to try these NOW! Why can’t it be my birthday again (without turning a year older of course 🙂 ). These flats come in a few different styles. Nordstrom does not sell this specific TOPSHOP flat so they would be an online order.. unless you are fortunate enough to live by a TOPSHOP!

Next, I am still dreaming about getting a key. The Giving Keys have been in my dreams for a while now. I have not gone for one yet because I can’t decide which one I want! Now, of course, the one I think I like the most is over $100… why can’t I settle for lacing up a old house key I find? It’s just not the same 😉 . Each key has a word engraved in it. This one says “fearless.” I think I would feel like a bad ass wearing it, right? With the word “fearless” I think I would be tougher. Of course there is always the ring option which I have only found online and I feel like a ring really needs to be tried on for size (I don’t have the skinniest fingers). Can I have both?

Free People recently came out with some ADORABLE items! This sweater is SO cute and comfy! It would be great with some skinny dark or colored jeans and a long necklace. I think little booties would be best but tall boots would be okay too, any color. This sweater is so neutral yet special. (yes I just called a piece of clothing special, OMG) SHOPPING SECRET: I like to put items I like (usually on Nordstrom.com) in my wish list then I wait until they go on sale to purchase 😉 . Not all the items go on sale but most of my wish list items usually do at some point. I check my wish list often to see if one of my favorites is on sale yet. Free People is kind of expensive and it does go on sale so keep you eye out!

Thanks for reading and letting me vent about my wishes. Happy unbirthday to you!

FINAL OPTION

This last option is a more formal one. Heels are an obvious choice for dressing up a simple black dress. I RARELY wear heels but I feel like it is a must to own a pair for that once in a while evening that heels are perfect for. I try my best to make an outfit work without heels but sometimes there is no avoiding it 😉 . These ones are Louise et Cie and are pretty comfortable for heels. They are about 3 1/2”, I found that 3” is what I am most comfortable at, 4” is crazy town! After wearing these for a night only one toe was numb for about a day, that’s good right?

This Search for Sanity jacket is so fun and lightweight for summer. It can really dress up an outfit. The necklace is Panacea and is always a great addition to any outfit! I love how different it is. A real conversation starter 🙂 .

OPTION TWO

My sister and I did a photo shoot. I chose a LBD (little black dress) and wanted to show different ways it could be worn. Before pulling these outfits together, I never thought about wearing something besides a fancy jacket and heels with a LBD. I am excited about these fun outfits, they will make you think differently the next time you put on your LBD. In my previous posts, you will find pictures of just the LBD and then a first casual option. This is the next option, a Treasure & Bond (one of my favorite brands) adorable denim jacket (yes, those are polka dots), fun Baublebar spunky necklace and Frye neutral booties (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, #nsale). A denim jacket is a must for your wardrobe. It can be worn with so many things! I pair it with a dress, skirt or a different shade of denim jeans (I do love denim, but I think mixing denim colors is better than the same color denim on top and bottom, Canadian tuxedo’s still aren’t cool; you know, D on D).

OPTION ONE

Extreme closeup!

Here is the first option I chose to wear with this dress. I LOVE the idea of mixing casual with fancy, whether it’s a t-shirt with a fancy-ish skirt or in this case, a dress with a flannel and converse. I am crazy for Converse, I think this is my 3rd or 4th pair. Just a fun fact, they wash really well! I wore my white pair camping (I know terrible idea) and they washed back to crisp white. My girls have the pink velcro Converse (going on their 3rd pair) and they wash well too 🙂 . I went with this could-be-casual-or-dressed-up necklace, courtesy of my sister-in-law; Thank you Jamie! The flannel is actually denim and it is SO comfy and great to wear with light jeans, or unbuttoned as a third piece. The sleeves rolled gives the shirt a cuter look. I don’t know how I came up with this outfit, it just came to me as I was looking into my closet trying to figure out what to do. It is unexpected and I think that is what I like most about it. This outfit could be worn during the day, running around with the kids and then you could trade out the Converse for heels and take off the denim shirt for a night out. The necklace would still be great for going out. Here are lots of pics from our “photo shoot,” I hope you enjoy! Thanks again Bri for helping!!

SAY CHEESE!

Sunday morning, my sister and I woke up early to take pictures (of me 🙂 ) for the blog. We decided to go at 7am to avoid people, we are no professionals, photographer or model, so the fewer people around the better (so embarrassing!). When choosing the outfits for the shoot, I decided to wear a plain black dress then show different ways to style it. These pictures are of a Tildon dress and BP leopard flats (my fav!).  I can’t show all the goods in one blog post, so today I will post only the pics of my black dress. The next post will show a different way to style the simple dress.

Mom Days

IMG_3662

I feel like I buy clothes often and I wear most of them to work but as soon as I get home I revert back to my jean shorts and t-shirt. WHY!!?? I hate going into my closet and feeling like I have nothing to wear or the things I do have I don’t want to mess up while hanging with the kids. Let’s be honest, If something is dry clean only that item is not going anywhere near our kids! I found somewhat of a solution. I can wear my usual v-neck with jean shorts but instead of throwing on my grey Toms, I wear a pair of flats and a necklace. I am not much of a heel or wedge wearer but more power to you if you are. You can still wear Toms or Converse, just be sure to add a third/finishing piece (vest, opened button down, necklace, jacket). Just taking an extra step on your easy outfit will make you feel better while out. Peep out your closet and try something different 🙂 . Remember, it doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Comfort is key when chasing kids 🙂 .
