My Latest Business Adventure

Hello! So, you all know how much I LOVE clothes and accessories really are the finishing touch to ANY look – casual or fancy. I hear lots of women say, “but I wouldn’t know what to wear that with.” Here’s the thing, the only way to get comfortable with wearing accessories is by just going for it and trying new things out. Amazing outfits don’t always come out of the first look you put on, it takes throwing on pieces in your closet that might go together and finding great looks out of what you weren’t sure of. Well, sometimes the amazing outfits will come from the first look you put together but not always πŸ˜‰ I recently started as a Stylist for Stella & Dot. Have you heard of them? If you haven’t, you need to stop what you’re doing and follow this link now! http://www.stelladot.com/caitlyndavis I want to share some of my favorite pieces and different ways I have styled them.

First, the Rebel Pendant (comes in silver, gold and rose gold) is an easy piece to throw on with anything. Often, I will put on the Rebel over jean shorts and a white T-shirt. It just adds a cute element to what was a plain outfit. So easy for the moms out there looking for something quick.

Next, the Chiara. OMG, at first I was not crazy about this necklace, but after layering it over a denim shirt – forget about it. I am obsessed with this piece. It is so great for girls night, date night, work or just wearing it because it’s super cute.

The Freya Fringe, is probably my ultimate favorite piece. It can be worn several different ways but my favorite are short and long. This piece is so versatile. I took this to New York and basically wore it the entire time even though I brought several pieces with me. This may seem a little intimidating to some but TRUST me, this will really add some sparkle to your wardrobe and you won’t believe all the compliments you will receive.

There’s so many more amazing pieces from Stella & Dot! Check out their website and let me know what you think πŸ˜‰ http://www.stelladot.com/caitlyndavis

Thanks for reading,

Virginia

Richmond, Virginia was the last leg of our trip. Our wonderful friends, Mike and Mona, hosted us at their super cool loft (thanks again, friends πŸ™‚ ). Our first thought once in Virginia was, “OMG it’s humid!” Β It went from no rain to downpour in the matter of minutes. Once the rain stopped, we were still wet from the humidity. Minus the humidity, we had a great time with awesome friends!

We arrived around lunch time and once settled in, we set out for lunch and shopping (best day ever). Check out the AMAZING faux fur vests I picked up πŸ™‚ Β because everyone needs 2 right. Β They serve different purposes… The pleather pants are just fun. Although, I wore them the other night and they were not quite as comfortable as I thought they would be (I could barely keep them up over my butt and it was a little hard to sit, TMI?) but they are still super cute and fun. The things girls do to look cute…

Notice the crazy cool necklace? I got the vest and pleather pants from a place called Traveling Chic BoutiqueΒ (check out the page, it’s a real cool place). The girls working were hilarious, they kept talking to a mannequin that they were trying to dress and saying all kinds of funny mean comments about the body, I peaked my head from the dressing room and said, ” you’re not talking about me right?” We all starting laughing, maybe you had to be there? The vest and necklace on the right are from Fab’rik. Β Ryan thinks the necklace is awful, but I LOVE it! I say, the uglier the better πŸ™‚ . It’s actually really cool. The people working at Fab’rik said while in Richmond, we needed to eat as much as possible because the food is amazing. So we did.

IMG_5322

IMG_5323

We had to try some southern BBQ. We ate at Buzz and Ned’s. I loved my wings, Ryan thought his ribs could have been better.

IMG_5311

Um, in Richmond, they have a 24 hour fresh cookie delivery service, AMAZING!

IMG_5331

We ended our trip with a super fun and cute boat ride. We were the only 4 people on the boat so the driver spent a little extra time letting us look for turtles, if you know me, you know how I feel about turtles πŸ™‚ .

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed reading about our trip,

Caitlyn

Highlights from our trip:

Big Bus tour in NYC, Book of Mormon, visiting with friends and of course shopping! Oh and of course coming home to our sweet girls πŸ™‚ .

EAST COAST DAY 2

DAY 2 of 6!

We all woke up well rested and excited for our second day in the city. It was about an hour train ride into the city from our friends house, where we were staying. Here’s a pic of Sandra and I at Madison’s adorable train station. Of course with our morning coffees πŸ™‚ .

IMG_5224

First stop, Grand Central Station. WOW! The station is beautiful! We took lots of pictures but nothing seemed to turn out awesome.. must have been the cameras fault right? Anyway, here is the only decent full body shot of my outfit for the day. I am crazy for this suede skirt because it goes with so much! I like to wear it with a longer shirt over or a tucked flannel. The shirt is so comfy and can be dressed up (sort of) or dressed down with jeans so easy. It comes with those hanging straps on the inside (which drive me nuts) and I plan to snip those out ASAP! The booties were a cute choice with this outfit but not a cute choice for walking around New York City. My feet were okay but they would have been a lot better in some Nike’s. But we were in the city, I had to dress up right?

0925151211

After touring the station for a little while, we tried out Dunkin’ Donuts. EVERYBODY says, “you must try Dunkin’ Donuts.” Look, this might offend some people but WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? I think the coffee was alright nothing special (#sorrynotsorry). After drinking our mediocre coffee, we took a taxi to the Rockefeller building.

IMG_5235

(Here’s Ryan calling for a taxi. OMG, he isΒ we are such dorks)

While waiting for our “appointment” time to take the elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller, I did some shopping at TOPSHOP πŸ™‚ .

Here is what I got:

IMG_5345

The yellow flannel has been on my radar for a while so I knew this was going to be a purchase. The lace-up flats have been all over Instagram lately and I have been drooling! I am so happy to now have a pair! I was between the these and the same ones but with tassels. Sandra and I decided the tassels were too intense. The NY (not from TOPSHOP) hat is just cute (sorry NY, I am only concerned about the cuteness factor. At least I am honest?).

The elevator ride up to the top of Rockefeller was 90 seconds of torture. I get motion sickness and they had a crazy strobe light show on the ceiling while we rode up (I was so happy when it stopped!). The views were amazing but I was happy to be back on the ground floor πŸ™‚ .

SDC12038

We ate a late breakfast so we skipped lunch, terrible decision (some of us may have been hangry (hungry+angry=hangry), or maybe that was just me?). We went and wandered through the MET. AMAZING is all I can say. You could spend an entire day just looking at things in the MET. We left after a couple hours in need of dinner.

SDC12046

(I should be embarrassed by this but for some reason I am not)

SDC12051

Reichenbach Hall is where we ended up for dinner. It was a great atmoshphere with delicious chicken wings πŸ™‚ . The beer was pretty good too! After dinner, we checked out the Barcade (video game bar). The dudes had a great time, Sandra and I were exhausted.

Lastly, on our way back to the train station, I saw a Psychic sign. YES! This is not really for everyone but I think it is fun to see what they will say. The woman read my palm for a few seconds (while her dog barked and her kids yelled in the other room) then had some serious predictions. She said: If I am not careful, I will be pregnant with a boy in 7 months (um, no thanks! This mama is done πŸ™‚ ), I will be signing important papers in the next few months, we will be buying a different house in 2 years and I may be changing jobs. She also answered a few random questions of mine. It was a lot of fun, I may or may not have been intoxicated while my reading but I had a blast.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our day 2 in NYC, there are 4 more days to come!

BOOTIESLICIOUS (THAT’S A WORD RIGHT?)

Oh September, you sure snuck up on me! Although, it is still smoking hot outside and I cannot even think about wearing jeans or socks with shoes (I am sweating thinking about it), I have been peeping out some AMAZEBALL booties for the Fall.

At the beginning of summer, my Husband got some Chukkas and they are adorable, in a cool-dude kind of way. I never thought about myself in a pair of booties like these but when in Rome. I am kind of crazy for these blue ones. They are different from anything I have own and I think that is why I like them so much. Who wears blue shoes? This girl! They come in several other colors too, the bordeaux is a great option too πŸ™‚ .

_10962197

Bussola ‘Salem’ Chukka bootie – I just love! They would be adorable with skinny jeans, or boyfriend jeans rolled at the bottom.
_10859055

These Nine West ‘Just This’ ankle bootie is so cute and fun! They really “edge” things up! I like that they are not over the top moto.

_9816585

These booties areΒ Franco Sarto and would be adorable with jeans, skinny or not, also great with tights and skirts/dresses πŸ™‚ . They can really be dressed up too, which is nice for a work to night out option.

_11120983

These Franco Sarto booties are so different and I would love to see them on with tights, a skirt and sweater. Oh, I can’t wait for cold weather πŸ™‚ .

I am slightly obsessed with Franco Sarto and Vince Camuto shoes right now πŸ˜‰ . All these booties run between $100-$150. They are great shoes that will last through more than one season πŸ™‚ .

A GIRL CAN DREAM

Lately, I have been drooling over some must-have items (in my opinion). Why is everyone wearing these TOPSHOP lace-up flats? Now, I want them!! By everyone, I mean people sponsored on Instagram… but still.. I can’t get them out of my head. They are called Kingdom Ghillie Pointed Shoes and they are adorable. They would be great with a dress, shorts/skirt or even jeans. They are different and I think that is what I am most attracted to, they also fill my wannabe ballerina I guess. I need to try these NOW! Why can’t it be my birthday again (without turning a year older of course πŸ™‚ ). These flats come in a few different styles. Nordstrom does not sell this specific TOPSHOP flat so they would be an online order.. unless you are fortunate enough to live by a TOPSHOP!

Next, I am still dreaming about getting a key. The Giving KeysΒ have been in my dreams for a while now. I have not gone for one yet because I can’t decide which one I want! Now, of course, the one I think I like the most is over $100… why can’t I settle for lacing up a old house key I find? It’s just not the same πŸ˜‰ . Each key has a word engraved in it. This one says “fearless.” I think I would feel like a bad ass wearing it, right? With the word “fearless” I think I would be tougher. Of course there is always the ring option which I have only found online and I feel like a ring really needs to be tried on for size (I don’t have the skinniest fingers). Can I have both?

Free People recently came out with some ADORABLE items! This sweater is SO cute and comfy! It would be great with some skinny dark or colored jeans and a long necklace. I think little booties would be best but tall boots would be okay too, any color. This sweater is so neutral yet special. (yes I just called a piece of clothing special, OMG) SHOPPING SECRET: I like to put items I like (usually on Nordstrom.com) in my wish list then I wait until they go on sale to purchase πŸ˜‰ . Not all the items go on sale but most of my wish list items usually do at some point. I check my wish list often to see if one of my favorites is on sale yet. Free People is kind of expensive and it does go on sale so keep you eye out!

OPTION TWO

My sister and I did a photo shoot. I chose a LBD (little black dress) and wanted to show different ways it could be worn. Before pulling these outfits together, I never thought about wearing something besides a fancy jacket and heels with a LBD. I am excited about these fun outfits, they will make you think differently the next time you put on your LBD. In my previous posts, you will find pictures of just the LBD and then a first casual option. This is the next option, a Treasure & Bond (one of my favorite brands) adorable denim jacket (yes, those are polka dots), fun Baublebar spunky necklace and Frye neutral booties (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, #nsale). A denim jacket is a must for your wardrobe. It can be worn with so many things! I pair it with a dress, skirt or a different shade of denim jeans (I do love denim, but I think mixing denim colors is better than the same color denim on top and bottom, Canadian tuxedo’s still aren’t cool; you know, D on D).

OPTION ONE

SONY DSC
Extreme closeup!

Here is the first option I chose to wear with this dress. I LOVE the idea of mixing casual with fancy, whether it’s a t-shirt with a fancy-ish skirt or in this case, a dress with a flannel and converse. I am crazy for Converse, I think this is my 3rd or 4th pair. Just a fun fact, they wash really well! I wore my white pair camping (I know terrible idea) and they washed back to crisp white. My girls have the pink velcro Converse (going on their 3rd pair) and they wash well too πŸ™‚ . I went with this could-be-casual-or-dressed-up necklace, courtesy of my sister-in-law; Thank you Jamie! The flannel is actually denim and it is SO comfy and great to wear with light jeans, or unbuttoned as a third piece. The sleeves rolled gives the shirt a cuter look. I don’t know how I came up with this outfit, it just came to me as I was looking into my closet trying to figure out what to do. It is unexpected and I think that is what I like most about it. This outfit could be worn during the day, running around with the kids and then you could trade out the Converse for heels and take off the denim shirt for a night out. The necklace would still be great for going out. Here are lots of pics from our “photo shoot,” I hope you enjoy! Thanks again Bri for helping!!

CONFESSION TIME

I can’t believe I have not posted about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale!! OMG there are a some MUST haves! First, I must confess why I have been so distracted lately. I was posting a few times a week until recently. 50 Shades of Grey. I know you must be rolling your eyes but at least I am honest… OMG I am not a reader normally but these books have taken over my life in the past few weeks. My husband thinks it’s an inner freak in me but really it is more about the story in these books. I literally read every chance I get, hence the lack of posts lately. I find myself wanting to use quotes from the book, I almost emailed my Director the other day saying “we aim to please.” OKAY, THERE I feel better πŸ™‚ . Β Now, back to the Nordstrom sale.
_10588899

Oh, these boots! Frye boots happen to be my favorite brand of boots. They are a little on the pricey side BUT they are well made and will last a lifetime (maybe?). I love the color of these, you can wear them with jeans (light or dark), a skirt or a dress. The options are endless! They can be worn with pretty much any color shirt or dress. At first I thought they were too western for me but I decided to get over it because they are adorable.

_10800543

These high-rise Rag & Bone jeans. Who buys green pants? This girl does. I love that they are a dark green so it’s not like wearing neon colored pants. They are different which makes any outfit original. They are a fun spin on typical colored denim jeans. Do not let these intimidate you, wear them with any top you would normally pair with jeans. I love that they are skinny and would be super cute with boots! Β _10671530

I am not normally into the 2fer type shirts but this one tugged at my heart. Once tried on, I was in love. This Treasure & Bond sweater comes in more colors but I think this is the best choice. This could be worn with denim jeans or the green ones above would be super cute. Although, would the green and red be too festive around Christmas time? I think it would be okay.

_10770237

I apologize for this picture, it is kind of awkward!

OMG this Top Shop biker vest. The Top Shop sizes are weird, I see lots of stuff I want but nothing seems to fit me right, does this happen to other people too? Back to the vest. Β I am not really a “rough” dresser but this vest is adorable. If I get this vest I imagine myself wearing it with the sweater above, dark denim skinny jeans and some white converse, doesn’t that sound adorable? Well, if not then maybe a white shirt underneath, skinny jeans and flats (cheetah of course πŸ™‚ ). This is a little out there but I love it and it would be a fun piece to have. Yes, I did try it on and this Top Shop item actually fits me!

This years sale is a good one, definitely worth peeping out πŸ™‚ .

A LITTLE LACE

IMG_4126

WOW, it has been almost a week since my last post, sorry. I have been in a funk lately and have not felt up to posting. The funk is over and it’s time to blog! This outfit. The skirt is Ro & De and it is so fun! The stripes were a little intimidating at first but I went for it and I am so happy I did. I like to try different pieces of clothing together and see what ends up looking like a cool outfit (putting this skirt and top together was a random idea). The lace top (J.O.A.) is so different from the skirt and I think that is what I like most about it. The leopard flats (BP) are always fun. They don’t necessarily match but I think that’s okay. I am not into matchy-matchy pieces (unless it is a matching set, then I like that πŸ™‚ ). The necklace is a new Baublebar purchase ($10!!).

Adorable

The Giving Keys. Lately,I have seen some people around town wearing a used key. I thought it was just a cute key on a chain until I found out more. Β People purchase one of these keys for someone they feel “need” the message engraved on the key or just because they think it is ADORABLE. Some of the words are LOVE, STRENGTH, CREATE and COURAGE. I am not a touchy-feely person, so I would go for CREATE πŸ™‚ . You can get a key on a necklace, bracelet or ring, I love that there are so many options!!! Β Here is a brief description that I found on The Giving Keys website:

In A Nutshell

The Giving Keys exists to employ those transitioning out of homelessness to make jewelry out of repurposed keys that get sold and shared around the world. Each key is unique and carries a message like HOPE, STRENGTH, DREAM or COURAGE. When the wearer of the key encounters someone else who needs the message on the key, they give it away and then send us the story of their key being paid forward.

20141211_ClassicaNecklace-Grouping_grande8Y45N-ARRSrtrB_qW5NeLbWqRwrU2aA0GLK3T5PhHy4nUFPg2kVLNwtPrZ4wYn-D-Ckb5g_w1261-h744_large20131119_Giving_Keys_-_lookbook_rings002_large20150313_TGK_Necklaces019_grande

The meaning behind the keys is amazing. I really wanted to buy one for myself but I feel like it needs to be gifted to you. It’s like Halloween, I will wait by my porch hoping for someone to BOO me.. πŸ™‚ I did purchase one for someone’s Birthday but I can’t say who because they may read this πŸ™‚ . One concern I do have is, I wonder if they key can rub off on your shirt and make it dirty? Sorry, hopefully not! They are adorable and I am a little obsessed. I found them at a boutique in the Fountains, Roseville but they are also sold online and at Nordstrom.
